1) GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR STAFF - Improved staff utilization is a more critical element of successful practices now than ever before. Practices that want to become more profitable can no longer just count on fee increases to achieve this goal. Improved profitability and patient care must come from improved business practices. In addition, employees who are allowed to learn and grow and use more skills are generally happier in their jobs and more likely to stay with the practice than those who are only allowed to do less interesting tasks.

2) PROFITABILITY: THE KEY TO IMPROVED CASH FLOW AND VALUE - The Brakke Management and Behavior Study empirically demonstrated the importance to practice owners of understanding the finances of their practices and how few owners really do. Bottom line: The majority of practice owners don’t understand financial terms and those that do, make more money.

3) USING THE NCVEI REFERRAL PRACTICE BENCHMARKING TOOLS - Very little good quality information about the structure, finances and business operations of specialty and emergency practices is currently available. While there is a large quantity of data and resources available for general practices; this usually isn’t helpful to referral practices in decision making. It has traditionally been difficult to gather benchmarking data for referral practices because their size, shape, and business models vary greatly; the new NCVEI tools are an attempt to fill this need.
