NCVEI- Working Groups


  To provide NCVEI with additional insight and broaden representation, working groups were established in 2000.

  1. Pricing Strategies

    Co-Chairs - Dr. Jay Geasling and Dr. John Albers
    • Create analytical tools to help veterinary practices better understand their economics and pricing options
    • Research the behaviors that impact fee schedules, such as discounting, self-esteem and practice philosophy

  2. Promoting Greater Efficiency in the Delivery System

    Co-Chairs - Dr. Sherbyn Ostrich and Dr. Jane Brunt
    • Produce strategies to achieve greater efficiency in practices (e.g. better use of support staff, benchmarking, capturing of charges, etc.
    • Conduct productivity study of the profession to explore the creation of working models for better asset utilization as well as practice consolidation

  3. Increased Understanding of Customers and their Needs

    Co-Chairs - Dr. Mike Paul and Dr. Randall Bush
    • Study market penetration and identify potential service areas where veterinarians can play a significant role by better recognition of the demands of animal owners, industry and government
    • Action plans included tools for marketplace and client evaluation

  4. Gender Issues Task Force

    • Ensure that all working groups' output addresses the needs of woman constituents
    • Develop action plans addressing gender/generational issues
    • Areas of particular interest are business acumen, integration into the workforce and balancing career and family

  5. Strategies to Increase the Skills, Knowledge, Aptitude and Attitude of Veterinarians

    • Identify and produce competencies in veterinarians to ensure their economic well-being
    • Impact on student entrance requirements
    • Creative approach to raising skills of those who are already in the workforce

  6. Staff Utilization

    Chair - Dr. Joanna Bassert
    • Develop an analytical model that will carve out unique niches for each staff member, giving him/her a sense of importance, incentive to become an "expert" in a particular area and build a greater sense of "team" among the staff
    • Increase veterinarian's knowledge of terminology and the law with regard to individual staff positions
    • Assess the veterinarian's level of delegation to and support of employees

  7. Blue Ribbon Panel

    • Serve as consultants to the NCVEI in the research and development of the analytical tools
    • Provide practice management recommendations to veterinarians utilizing the NCVEI website Exam Room
